Our story

Welcome to the website of CFDK Horses. On this website, you will find our small-scale breeding of dressage horses. PSL (Purebred Lusitano) crossed with the KWPN or related studbooks. We are hobbyist breeders. All the horses in our possession are for sale to the right buyer and for the right amount.

Who we are

We are Jessica de Klerk-Terlingen and Quintus de Klerk. Jessica grew up surrounded by horses, with an aunt and uncle who bred purebred Arabian horses under the Berkenhof stud name. Her parents were owners of the Grand Prix horse Dupalatin, which was competed by Atie Spijker in the 1980s. As a young girl, she often spent time in her aunt and uncle's stables and attended various international dressage competitions. "By watching and listening a lot, I learned a great deal, yet a human lifetime is too short to learn everything about horses."

Jessica herself has competed with several horses at Z level and has developed a sense for good characters over the years.

Quintus de Klerk, before meeting and marrying Jessica, didn't have a particular love for horses. However, he had technical and mechanical skills. With this perspective, he began to look at the locomotor system of horses. He has since developed a love for the animals. Together, Jessica and Quintus breed horses on a small scale with good characters.

Vision:

First and foremost, a horse must have a good character, be sociable towards humans and other animals, and be rideable for the average amateur. And above all, they should be a lifelong companion. Not a Ferrari with constant issues, but a reliable Volvo.

Origin:

In 2016, we came into contact with the Lusitano horse. A strong, willing, and proud breed with which we immediately connected. When in 2017 the KWPN introduced the Pilot program to give foals from PSL and PRE mares a KWPN paper, it was a sign for us that what we had been saying for a year should become a reality.

In 2017, we were given the opportunity by Mr. Custodio Farto to use his mare Joia de Coroa. We bred her with Four Legends, resulting in Negoramaro CFDK.

And thus, CFDK Horses was established (Custodio Farto De Klerk). Negoramaro grew up in the fields of Custodio and Pedro Teixera Farto in Portugal, just north of Lisbon. And to this day, it is where our young horses grow up, close to nature.

Unfortunately, Mr. Custodio Farto passed away in 2022. We are very grateful to him for being at the beginning of our adventure. Fortunately, his sons Pedro Teixera Farto and Afonso Farto continue their breeding program, and so does our collaboration. Our young horses still enjoy the Portuguese sun and vast lands along the banks of the Tagus River.
